Love the app but background activity wiped my battery

I love the drum pad experience with this app. There is little to no perceivable lag and the drum sounds are high quality.

The battery in my 5S started to drain dramatically faster after installing iOS 8 and after checking my battery usage I found that Rhythm Pad has accounted for 47% of my battery usage in the last week. To make it worse, it said that it was the apps background activity that was draining my battery.

Ive since deleted the app and my battery now lasts an entire day. Unfortunate since I enjoyed the app and even spent money upgrading it.
